The City of San Luis offers a variety of benefit options to eligible employees, including health, dental, vision, work/life, financial and voluntary benefits.
- Benefits Eligibility: All regular, temporary, provisional and term employees working 30+ hours per week are eligible to enroll themselves and their eligible dependents.
- Effective Date of Coverage:
- Employees: First of the month following Date of Hire.
- Dependents: First of the month following employee's eligibility date.
- New Employee Benefits Orientation: The Benefits staff is dedicated to making your benefits enrollment a simple process. Benefits Orientation is held every other Wednesday following the beginning of a Pay Period. We highly encourage you to attend a Benefits Orientation to ensure you make informed decisions regarding your benefits.

Changes to your Benefits
You are responsible for updating your benefits by submitting the appropriate life event during the plan year (adoption, birth, death, divorce, dissolution of marriage, etc.) within 31 days of the event.
- Merely adding a dependent event will not update your benefits. Any changes you make must be consistent with the change in status and these changes must be submitted within 31 days of the event taking place.
- You may add or remove dependents to and/or from your exiting plan within 31 days consistent with IRS regulations.
- Failure to submit notification in a timely manner may impact dependent eligibility for health care continuation under COBRA, and may result in you incurring liability for medical expenses for non-eligible dependents.
