Eligibility and Requirements

1. Eligibility:

a. Eligibility Requirements:

i. Be a resident living continuously within the city limits of San Luis, Arizona for at least one (1) year before September 19, 2019.

ii. Be age 17 to 23 on September 16th, 2021.

iii. Have no felony convictions, other convictions, or pending charges that may bring discredit to the City of San Luis Miss San Luis Scholarship Pageant. (A criminal background check will be required of applicants selected to be contestants).

iv. Be female.

v. Be bilingual in English and Spanish.

vi. Cannot have been the top winner in the prior year. (The top winner is not eligible to participate in consecutive years).

vii. Be enrolled in school

1. Registered as a full-time student or

2. Employed part-time (minimum 16 hours per week) and attending school part-time (minimum 6 hours per week)

The applicant must maintain the above full-time or part-time student status through the Pageant. If the applicant becomes Miss San Luis, Arizona, she must maintain above full-time or part-time student status through her election year.

i. This Application: This application must be submitted on or before

Thursday May 20th, 2021. Late applications will not be considered.

This application must be completed in full including attachments of

-copy of the birth certificate,

-copy of government-issued identification,

-proof of physical address.

Those who apply on time do not automatically become contestants. The City of San Luis Parks and Recreation Department will review all applications submitted on time and in its discretion determine eligibility to select the contestants. The decision of eligibility to select the contestants cannot be appealed and is final. Applications found to be untrue will be excluded from the competition.

There is no registration fee.

ii. Promotional Photos: The applicant must submit 2 digital photographs of herself in semi-formal or formal attire. The photographs must be appropriate for promotion of the Miss San Luis, Arizona Scholarship Pageant. Please submit the photographs on or before Thursday, August 29th, 2019.

iii. Essay: To be eligible, the applicant must write an essay and submit it on or before Monday, August 23rd, 2021. The essay must be type-written, in English, in MLA format, a minimum of 750 words. The topic must express a community project the applicant would implement

throughout her elected period starting September 16th, 2021, if she won Miss San Luis, Arizona and highlighting the positive impact the community project would have on the City of San Luis, Arizona. The essay will be judged on content, form, style and creativity. (See specifics in the criteria table under the heading below titled, “How Winners are Selected.” An applicant is not eligible if the essay is late, or the essay does not follow the above rules.

2. Requirements of Chosen Contestants:

a. Mandatory Attendance:

Five (5) Points will be deducted from the maximum points of 100 if the contestant is absent.

Dates to be determined. There will be:

At least two (2) weekend activities,

several community events,

Several workshops to enhance personal development.

Rehearsal Monday September 6th, through Thursday September 16th, 2021.

If the contestant is absent, the contestant will be disqualified from the contest.

b. City of San Luis Volunteer Application:

Contestants must fill out a City of San Luis Volunteer Application and submit to a criminal background check.

c. Dress Code:

While participating in the pageant or the activities leading to the pageant, contestants shall not wear clothes that expose the midriff or the areas covered by modest-style women’s swimsuits. Tops shall not be too low-cut. Skirts or shorts shall not be excessively short.
