E-Verify Program

About the Law

Effective January 1, 2008, this law requires all Arizona businesses to verify employment eligibility of all employees hired after this date.

Arizona House Bill 2779 is also known as the Legal Arizona Workers Act, the Arizona Fair and Legal Employment Act, and the Fair and Legal Employment Act.

Major Impact

The major impact of this law places the burden on business to verify the eligibility of new hires to work in the U.S. In addition, it imposes stiff penalties on those who employ illegal workers.

Verifying Eligibility

Employers can verify eligibility through the federal E-Verify program, formerly known as Basic Pilot Program.
